about

“Dear Teri is one of my favourite songs on the album. It’s a love song dedicated to friendship and the unspoken exchanges that occur between two people. I wanted to encapsulate my appreciation for the subtle gestures of care and thoughtfulness and the unconscious generosity that there seems to be an endless pool of, for some special people within your lifetime. Teri is also the singer of Le Butcherettes and Bosnian Rainbows. At the time of writing this song, it was part of a letter-song exchange we had going on over email. We’ve been close since meeting in London for the Red Bull Music Academy back in 2010. We’ve continued a romantic friendship ever since to help each other keep our big dreams alive. Teri, this ones for you.”

lyrics

Dear Teri,
I don't think you know
Just what I'm thinking of
Yeah just what I'm thinking of
It's funny that it has been so long
Though we carry on, just where we left off

You think it didn't mean that much
It's all that I think about
You think it didn't mean that much
It's all that you think about
It’s not too late to change your path
To follow something you dream about
There's nothing like a change of heart
To follow something you feel

I remember your yesterday
Just like it was my own
Was it my own?
I recall all the words you say
Recounting my story
And how it touched me so
You think it didn't mean that much
It’s all that I think about
You think it didn't mean that much
It's all that you think about
It’s not too late to change your path
And follow something you dream about
There's nothing like a change of heart
To follow something you feel

I dreamt that I was leaving when I woke up really missed you
Baby I was sleeping when you woke up I was dreaming
And I thought that I was leaving when I woke up really missed you
Baby I was sleeping when I woke up you were dreaming
Thought that I was leaving when I woke up really missed you
Baby I was sleeping when you woke up I was dreaming
I thought, you were leaving me behind, ooh

Dear Teri, I don't think you know
Just what I'm thinking of, just what I'm thinking of
Just what I'm thinking of
Just what I'm thinking of
Just what I'm thinking of
Just what I'm thinking of
Ooh Ooh Ooh Oooh

Sui Zhen Melbourne, Australia

Sui Zhen examines loss on multiple levels, from the death of loved ones to the widespread societal tendency to disappear within the 1’s and 0’s of modern life's tech-driven rush. Her latest track 'Sleepless' was written between the death of her mother and the death of her first born son. Despite the weight it carries, it is a testament of emotional liberation in the face of adversity. ... more
